Health is more than just a number

This new year I have made it my mission to really focus in on my health. Not because I want to weigh a specific number on the scale or because I want to fit in my old skinny jeans, but because my livelihood depends on it! Being healthy in the new year means I can be a better partner to my husband, a better mother to my daughter, and just an over all better person. Health  should be about falling in love with the process, learning about your unique body (head to toe), and understanding possible imbalances that may need to be adjusted through nutrition in order to meet those goals! So many of us suffer from diseases that don’t allow us to do what other people can, but we shouldn’t allow those things to be our crutches. Instead, we should take control of our health and be our own advocates and get to know ourselves better.  It’s important to have a clear picture on how your going to reach obtainable healthy goals. I am passionate about my health, yet I can admit I sometimes fall short. I have added 3 basic things to my health routine that are currently helping me stay on track, informed, and are keeping myself accountable. I encourage you to to integrate these things into your own lifestyle!

1. I have started a food journal/meal prepping: I try to eat as healthy as possible, but sometimes I consume foods that are not helping me meet my health goals. I have found that the smartest thing to do to is to meal prep. I typically meal prep on Mondays and make tons of veggies and protein options for quick lunches and dinners. For breakfast I will either make a smoothie, breakfast bowl, or have eggs with veggies and a piece of fruit. When its time to eat lunch/dinner I make sure to add a healthy fat to my plate. I have a grocery list I follow and recently started a food journal. Planning & tracking food helps become more conscious of what you put into your body and are less likely to treat it carelessly. I am also aiming for 64+ oz of water a day.

2. 30 minutes of exercise a day: Aiming for at least 30 minutes of exercise a day is ideal for weight loss and overall physical health in conjunction with healthy eating habits. I used to believe that if I didn’t work out 1-2 hours at the gym, I wouldn’t have good workout. Thinking this way would lead me to skip exercising all together. This year I’ve decided that everything that keeps me from reaching my goals is an excuse to not work hard for it. Thirty minutes a day is doable for me, and I think It’s doable for anyone!  We all have 30 minutes everyday to get our bodies moving. I typically wait for my baby’s nap to turn on a youtube video and do some HIIT cardio, or go outdoors for a stroll with her and do stroller workouts. If you search on Pinterest for “stroller workouts” a ton of ideas will pop up! The only workout you will every regret is one you didn’t do! So get that body moving! Your body deserves 30 minutes of your time!

3. Nokia Body+ Scale
Personally, I have never been a fan of scales. I have always preferred to track my progress by how I feel and how my clothes fit, but Nokia has changed the way I look at scales. Nokia is now in the business of health and they’ve invented a product that effortlessly has become a part of my wake up routine. The Nokia Scale is more like a body analyzer that not only gives your weight, but also shows you your bone mass, water%, muscle mass, fat mass, and even gives you the weather! Every morning after brushing my teeth, I now step on the scale to view my data and check the weather.  The health data I see helps motivate me to make good choices for my body each day. The Nokia scale works with the free health mate app and lets you view a complete history of your health data. Everything gets stored directly onto your phone where you can customize screens, set, and track new goals! It also has health programs and special modes for babies and pregnancy! It can track up to 8 users and have their data independently synced under their own name! The Nokia Body + scale isn’t a scale that controls how I see and feel about my body. Instead, it has exceeded my expectations because it helps give me full control of what I want health to be for me, which is more than just a number! Plus, it has a modern stylish design that fits well with my home decor!

    I need to work on meal prep. I feel like I just never have time for it!

      Ahh sorry for the late reply! Didn't see this until now! I totally feel this! Time can definitely get in the way of meal prep. What I typically do is just cook all my meat and veggies at the same time and just throw them together with different combinations when its time to eat. I don't meal prep each meal instead I do large quantities of easy things I can put together when I'm hungry.
