Co-sleeping is something that our family didn’t purposely plan to do. I set up Rylie’s nursery since the moment I found out the gender. I also planned to transition Rylie to her crib at 6 months but that didn’t happen either. Rylie was born with acid reflux so in the beginning she slept in a rock n play to keep her at an inclined position (also wasn’t in our plans) lol. We tried transitioning her from the rock n play to her crib for naps and sometimes she managed to sleep for half the night in her crib, but would wake up crying because she wanted to be next to us. Since my husband has to get up early to work the crying was something we easily solved but putting her into our bed and being new parents we didn’t mind being next to our precious new baby. So basically without beating around the bush, we weren’t consistent and just gave in to her little cute baby cries haha.
I am a BIG believer in everything happens for a reason though! Don’t get me wrong, we didn’t really enjoy the kicks throughout the night, but we did love those baby snuggles! Okay, we still LOVE the baby snuggles haha!
There are benefits to co-sleeping. Like, the obvious meeting your baby’s needs without having to get up and also the bonding and secure attachment between baby and parents that you experience through cosleeping. I love that I can tend to all of her needs immediately, which helps when she is feeling under the weather. Also, we love waking up next to a happy baby! She will only be little once so no regrets right?! Maybe its true what they say. The first one is an experiment haha. Maybe we are doing parenting all wrong, or maybe its just a choice we’ve made for this long and we’ve learned how to deal with it. Perhaps, with our second child we will transition much earlier and actually stay consistent with it. After all, we would like to have our “married people time” in our own bed haha.
I’ve been hearing such great things about this product and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. The DockAtot has been an amazing product for our co-sleeping family! It is designed to be a snug and soothing environment for the baby. Let me tell you, I have never seen Rylie fall asleep faster! After just a few minutes of putting Rylie down she knocks out right away! The more and more I kept using it the more she understood it was nap time and continued to fall asleep fast! Something she didn’t do prior because I would have to stay next to her for a good 20 minutes before she would actually fall asleep. It’s so great for cuddling up next to her as well while she counts her baby sheep haha. Sometimes, I end up falling asleep myself with her because those edges are too comfy!
I have the DockAtot Grand which is designed for babies age 9-36 months! It’s also perfect for lounging around the house, grandma’s house, and for all traveling! My favorite part of this magical product is that it’s ideal for bed transitioning because the soft sides act as bed rails which will give your babe a sense of security in their own beds! They also make the Deluxe model for the newborn stages! I would have been all over it if I knew about this product sooner and knew for sure that I was going to be a co-sleeping parent. Moral of this story, is that you can’t plan EVERYTHING about parenting. Thankfully we have products like this that make life a little easier and sweeter for both parent and baby. If you were to ask us if we have any regrets about continuing to co-sleep with this sweet thang, we would say no not really haha! I mean look at her ???
